Bowenwork for Women’s Wellness and People Living with Cancer

A post by US Instructor, Sandra Gustafson

Hello everyone,

I am really looking forward to returning to Australia in August and sharing Bowenwork for ‘Women’s Wellness’ and ‘People Living with Cancer’ with practitioners! I will be teaching in Hobart, Sydney, Cairns and Brisbane.

In each class, I will be bringing 26 years of clinical experience as a Bowenwork practitioner, registered nurse and naturopath, and exploring ways to promote health and wellbeing for our clients, at all stages of life.

In Women’s Wellness*, we will look at common health conditions that women may experience, from puberty to adulthood, childbearing, menopause and older age. Bowenwork can be a wonderful modality to optimize postural growth and transitioning to living with hormonal cycles in teenagers and young women; supporting women in pre-natal care, through the stages of pregnancy, post-partum care, baby-care; gynaecological and hormonal disorders; mid-life health issues; and helping our elderly clients maintain mobility and wellness.

In People Living With Cancer*, we will explore how Bowenwork can be incorporated into care for a clients receiving cancer treatment (radiation, chemotherapy or surgery) and modify the application of our work to accommodate for contra-indications, sensitivities and vulnerabilities that our clients may be experiencing at that time. We will also look at supporting clients post-treatment, and offering Bowenwork to help reduce side-effects such as neuropathy, lymphoedema, scar-tissue, chronic pain. Additionally, Bowenwork can be a wonderfully supportive modality for people caring for people with cancer, especially in palliative care. Excitingly, this workshop is open to students of the Certificate IV in Bowen Therapy 10533NAT who have successfully completed Module 6.

In both courses, I provide extensive, research-based resources for practitioners to refer to and share with other healthcare providers, to educate the greater health community about Bowenwork’s contribution to client-care. My classes are interactive learning forums wherein I invite all participants to share their valuable experiences and insights with fellow class-mates, and brain-storm case-studies. We are all learners and teachers!

Looking forward to meeting you soon!

    Hi Sandra

I would be very interested in attending your course in Brisbane as I currently work as an Oncology Massage Therapist at Bloomhill Cancer Care. At this stage, however, they do not allow us to treat with Bowen Therapy even though a colleague and I both have out Diploma of Bowen Therapy.

Could you please advise the dates and cost for your Brisbane course and, also, if you have any information on scientific trials of Bowen with regard to oncology I would be very interested to access and read such documentation.

    Warm regards
